All about Sexplicit…

  • What is Sexplicit?

Sexplicit is pop up strip club! We are providing an alternative space to a traditional strip club. With Sexplicit, PDSM aims to show that businesses can be profitable as well as promoting ethical practices within the stripping industry.

  • When is Sexplicit?

Our first ever Sexplicit event is on Saturday 18th May 2024. Estimated times are 5-10pm. This is an irregular, pop-up event. Repeat of the event on a semi-regular basis will be dependent upon the success of the first event.

  • Why Sheffield?

Despite being a thriving city, there are no longer any legal strip clubs in Sheffield. Spearmint Rhino was Gemma's first ever strip club she worked at, but it closed during the pandemic. This has meant that many strippers in Sheffield have been forced out of work, made to travel further afield or have been funnelled deeper into sex work and have no choice but to operate underground in more dangerous conditions. We would like to give Sheffield-based workers the choice to work locally and in a safe space.

We'd also like to invite Sheffield locals to enjoy the environment and services that are no longer legally available in the area. We know many Sheff people would like to support sex worker spaces, but can't travel further afield. So we are bringing the fun to you!

  • It took us a hecking long time to find a venue that would be on board with us and aligns with our values. We're delighted to announce that our event will be held at Corperation! What's more iconic than having a blue pint in one hand, tipping dollars in the other and a nakey stripper on your lap?! Corp is wheelchair accessible. If you have other accessibility needs, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are excited to partner with this venue who has shown their support for our event and what we would like to achieve. They are committed to working with us to create a safe space for workers and customers alike. For our first event, only topless dances are allowed rather than fully nude. Corp is happy to work towards obtaining full nude licensing with PDSM if this is something we'd like to aim for in future. We are very comforted by the level of professionalism Corp has displayed.

This is our space, running it the way we want to.

  • How does it Work as A Customer

Customers will buy a ticket prior to the event. The cost of the ticket will include entry and a lap dance. This is to ensure everyone attending is paying for the main service we provide.

You can get settled into our space, have a drink (or many)! Enjoy the stage shows from our dancers. Why not show extra love and make it rain on the strippers with our tipping dollars? When you're piping hot and ready to go, you can be whisked away by a stripper for steamy topless lap dances.

If you're not interested in lap dances/paying for a lap dance, this event may not be for you and you can attend more stage-based events like The PDSM Competition or The PDSM Showcase. If you don't want dances, but just want to come to support the event, you will be more than welcome to give away your lap dance chip to a dancer as a tip instead.

We will be providing a small etiquette handbook to customers prior to the event so you can understand how to best respect the workers in our space!

Links to Worker information handbook and applications are at the bottom of this page.

All the details of the event will be transparent and provided prior to application, so you know exactly what to expect as a worker in our space. We are still working on the exact details. But you can get a taste with what we're offering below:

At Sexplicit, we will pay all our strippers at least a minimum working wage to be there.

We will book a sensible ratio of dancers to customers- we do not want to overbook, so we will award dancer spots as tickets sell.

We will be taking a commission, however, the majority of money from lap dances sold will go to the workers. The reason for a commission split is to fund the running of this pop-up event and future PDSM endeavours. This differs to the club's commission split, because the money we take from our workers will be funnelled back into the community, to allow for future PDSM opportunities and we will also be providing a better level of service to our workers. We want to help our dancers sell and make money. Part of the anxiety of a stripper is being 100% commission based and starting work in a deficit. We want to eliminate this fear, with the certainty that all workers will walk away with their base wage, as well as sales on top. No risk, all reward.

As a part of the base wage, dancers will be asked to perform one or two stage sets and a group set to finish the night. Performance ideas will be a part of the application process and we encourage weird, wonderful and political performances! Anything you'd like to perform as a dancer that wouldn't necessarily fit the mould of a typical club. TBD if it's a pole show or just floor stage show.

Customers will be able to purchase tipping dollars for the stage or in dances. While dancers get to keep their own money made from dances they have sold, the profits from tipping dollars will be split among dancers equally, with one share going to PDSM (e.g. if there were 19 dancers, 5% would go to PDSM). We are doing a coop split on tipping as we feel this is fairer and easier than you keep your tips. It encourages more of a team feel on the stage. It also means nobody is left out if the audience is saving their dollars or splurging them all at once. Dancers can leave the stage without the need to scramble to scrape up every last dollar off the stage- it's more practical. We are taking one share as a means to facilitate the tipping dollars opportunity to dancers and offset our costs of providing this service.

We would appreciate some local dancers getting involved with promotion. This is not a requirement. But our venue is allowing us to shoot some content prior to the event to help with ticket sales. We would be grateful for our dancer's contribution to get this first event off its feet!

While Sexplicit has a model of operation and is not a coop, we are dedicated to working with strippers in our spaces to deliver the type of event you want to work at. Gemma has designed this as her 'dream event' she'd want to work at (while having some compromise when it comes to offsetting the costs of an irregular pop-up night), but this may not be what everyone wants. We are open to suggestions of things dancers would like to see. We're too often told what to do and have to put up with so much shit, PDSM wants to break away from the bullshit and provide an environment that strippers are comfortable and happy working in at Sexplicit. We want to be innovative, evolving and breaking barriers- dancer's input is essential to fulfil this commitment.

We would love to provide opportunities to a wide variety of workers within the sex industry.

Our main goal is to provide a space for Sheffield based strippers, for the reasons described above. But you can apply from anywhere! Note that we will be covering a base wage, but this doesn't include travel or accommodation etc. We want this event to be profitable for those working it and would hate to have anyone out of pocket! Another reason why we would prefer locals, as having workers pay to be in our space defeats the purpose.

Our main focus is on strippers who work in clubs, as we are subjected to a traditional, unethical working environment. We want to give dancers a chance to work differently and under fairer conditions. However, you are welcome to apply if you perform lap dancing or other related sexual services outside of the club environment.

Even though we aim to provide a different club model which club workers deserve, we also recognise that traditional strip clubs are not the most inclusive or intersectional of environments and can be a block for a variety of workers! It's a privilege to be able to work or camouflage in a traditional club space. This means that these venues aren't always suitable for: non-femme presenting workers; trans workers; BIPOC workers; full service workers; neurodivergent folks; plus-sized folks and disabled folks. This is why we would like to open our applications to: all genders; all types of sex workers; making space for marginalised folks like BIPOC; neurodivergent peeps; all bodies of every shape and size and favour those with disabilities. We will not be accepting applications from non-SWers in order to provide the spaces to those who need it the most.

Our main focus is hiring current dancers who use stripping as their main or sole income. However, retired or part-time workers are welcome.

We will prioritise hiring strippers from working class backgrounds/ who are on the poverty line. Other class backgrounds are welcome.

We are relying on people's honesty in applications so we can best allocate slots to the people who need it the most. It is not yet decided, however, we will have a ratio of workers of different backgrounds (for example, even though our main goal is to provide a space for Sheffield workers, they will not make up the whole of our line up in order to ensure we can diversify our space).
